AEGEAN AIRLINES awarded by era with the "silver award airline of the year 2006/7"

ERA – the European Regions Airline Association – awarded AEGEAN AIRLINES the “Silver Award Airline of the Year 2006/7”. Aegean Airlines’ Chief Operations Officer Mr. Antonis Simigdalas and Technical Director Mr. Thanos Pascalis accepted the award on September 28th, in a prestigious ceremony held in conjunction with the Associations’ annual General Assembly in Barcelona, Spain, with 600 international press and airlines’ delegates.

The ERA Airline of the Year Award is the most recognized Airline Award for this sector of the industry. The aim of the Airline of the Year Award is to recognize the best overall achievement in the previous 12 months by an ERA member airline based on a wide range of criteria such as commercial and marketing strategy, finance, environment, operational efficiency and performance, product and customer service and industry representation.
Aegean Airlines was commended by the judges for its “constant growth of turnover, EBIT and profit, strong and active promotional strategy, efforts on environmental and security strategy and for its active participation in ERA and European aviation activities”.

Factors which won judging panel credit were:

• Constant growth of turnover, EBIT and profit. High year on year growth rates on turnover and profit show that their formula is working well.
• New investment to expand its fleet and its routes with code-sharing.
• Very nice fleet with quiet aircraft and the new A320.
• Very involved in up-to –date technology such as use of e-ticketing and e-check-in but has also taken the necessary measures to be IOSA certified.
• Aegean is not a newcomer to the ERA award. The fact that the airline does not only survive but flourishes in a country where the main competition benefits from subsidies is sufficient proof that Aegean is on the right track.
• Strong and active promotional strategy placing itself in a very competitive position.
• Commended for another year of sparkling performance on all fronts-a testimony to a robust business strategy.
• Steady development over the years, solid strategy, solid organization, very active in its market.
• Strong effort on environmental and security strategy with IOSA certification.
• A dynamic airline in a difficult environment.
