Aegean has won ERA’s "Airline of the year 2008/9" Gold award

Aegean Airlines was named the Gold winner at the prestigious European Regions Airline Association, Airline of the Year awards ceremony at the 2008 General Assembly, in Manchester.

Mr. Theodoros Vassilakis said: “It’s a great honour to be recognized once more by European Regions Airline Association.  Actually this is the fifth era award that we have won and I would like to express my thanks to the airline community of Europe and to the panel of judges for this distinction. This award makes our will to face the future even stronger. We would like to assure you that AEGEAN will continue implementing its long-term investment strategy, aiming to strengthen its overall presence and offer innovative services to its passengers”.

An international panel of experts mentioned the following points amongst its reasons for voting for AEGEAN:

•  Aegean Airlines continues to expand its network and add new – more environmentally friendly – aircraft to its fleet whilst maintaining strong turnover and profit development.
•  Aegean Airlines makes big achievements every year. The airline has very good fleet and crew utilization.

The ERA Airline of the Year Award is the most recognized Airline Award for this sector of the industry. The aim of the Airline of the Year Award is to recognize the best overall achievement in the previous 12 months by an ERA member airline based on specific achievements evaluated in the context of an individual airline’s operating conditions.

One of the major assets of the ERA Airline of the Year Award is the quality, independence and fairness of its judging procedure. The judging panel comprises a mix of industry's senior experts together with respected air transport journalists from all over Europe. Panellists are carefully selected for their knowledge and ability to assess achievements against the specific circumstances and constraints under which individual airlines operate.

ERA, is the only body representing the interests of the intra-European air transport industry in Europe.  An association of over 200 companies, representing the entire industry, including 60 airlines, 25 airports and over 100 associate and affiliate members comprising aircraft & engine manufacturers, international & regional airports and avionic suppliers & service providers.
